Maddox. Mad Dog. Our sunshine.

When we first learned that Maddox had been diagnosed with Down syndrome during pregnancy, it felt as though the life we had imagined was slipping away. We felt lost, trapped, and overwhelmed. We grieved deeply and cried—a lot.

But then Maddox arrived, and we quickly realized that the life we dreamed of wasn't over—it was only just beginning. Over the past year, we’ve embarked on a journey of unlearning and learning: about Down syndrome, disability, and the systems and organizations that will support Maddox both now and in the future.

We’ve also spent this year learning what it means to be parents and falling more in love with Maddox each passing day.

We've said before that Maddox is not, nor will ever be, defined or limited by his diagnosis. It's simply an incredible piece of what makes him, well, him. 

And what other pieces make up Maddox? Laughter. Smiles. Music. Adventures. Resilience. Being a Son. A Cousin. A Grandchild. Light. Joy. And so, so much more.

This year, we walk, bike, and hike to advocate that Maddox and every person in the Down syndrome community is worthy of inclusivity and most importantly—love.
