Hello!
Welcome to my fundraising page! My name is Claire Stillman and I have been challenged to “Karaoke for a Cause” in support of 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. When I was asked to be a part of this campaign, I first thought about why it would be worthwhile and important. There was no question that it would be fun, but my life is full up and it would only be worth doing if it meant something more. Here is how I see it...
Whenever 88Nine comes up in conversation, I always seem to always say and hear "I love 88Nine!" What is not to love? The station plays great music, the DJs are lovely humans that keep us entertained and, perhaps best of all, they produce stellar content to connect the community. As a nonprofit public radio station, Radio Milwaukee’s one-of-a-kind format is designed to unite people and build community through great music and compelling stories on the air, online and in the community. But Radio Milwaukee’s impact goes beyond all that, it is literally elevating Milwaukee’s image, self-image and livability. Radio Milwaukee engages and attracts people to our city and promotes the kind of unique, authentic culture that makes people love living here. And that my friends, is what ultimately made me say yes to participating in this unique campaign -- the unity in the love of Milwaukee that 88Nine inspires.
And unity is what we need. Our community is suffering. The gaps in our socio-economic, cultural, and racial divides are severe. This hurts people and narrows possibilities both personally, culturally, and economically and impedes the vitality of our community. In my service as the Executive Director of OmTown Yogis, another local nonprofit organization that loves Milwaukee, we have identified our calling to help make Milwaukee whole through community connections created through the practice of yoga -- honoring our differences while connecting positively as a whole.
It's through connections, sharing ideas, education and leadership that our community will change. So of course it made perfect sense that I participate in supporting Radio Milwaukee -- an organization doing much of what I believe. By supporting this station we are supporting a platform for connecting our community.
Along this theme, Ooh Child by the Five Stairsteps is going to be my song! This song radiates hope about the future, about a brighter day. And I have invited four very talented young people to back me up representing another generation of (adorable) optimists.
