Fund raising time for our karate Dojo Sun Dragon

As many of you know, Zephyr has been taking karate since he was 4 and I have off and on for several years.  Sun Dragon has been hugly important to us all these years, but especially so now during the pandemic.  Just a few weeks into lock down,  they figured out how to go to zoom classes and have been constatly perfecting that difficult task.  It has been monumental knowing that Zephyr can do classes every week in the living room and learn new black belt material..but really it's having a stable connection to our community. Their ability to pivot and their unwavering commitment to the community vitality and safty has been amazing. I realllllly want them to survive and thrive now and well into the future. They have led special classes for kids and adults on grief and coping during the pandemic, as well as workshops on racisom and social justice.  This place changes real lives in Austin and I believe save lives too.  

All of the funds raised go towards funding violence prevention outreach in our community, as well as karate class scholarships. That way, anyone can train regardless of their ability to pay. 

This year has been tough for membership-driven business, especially nonprofits. Organizations like Sun Dragon rely on an ongoing stream of new members in order to keep our business running. Given the pandemic and its uncertain future, we've come up against unique challenges that we've had to face in regards to new members and ways to continue our training. While our community is going strong and embracing these new learning opportunities, we need all the help we can get to continue serving our Austin community with violence prevention education, scholarship access, and local justice advocacy.
