I’m thrilled to share that I will be traveling to Tanzania, Africa March 2026 and will be participating in the One Kidney Climb- a fundraiser to support Kidney Donor Athletes, Inc.! Myself and other kidney donors will spend several days hiking to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route and we will reach the summit (19,341ft.) on World Kidney Day. Our purpose is to show the world that you can live an active and full life after kidney donation.
I was able to donate my left kidney to my mom on May 15th, 2012. I was grateful to be able to do so and in return I know she was thankful to have a second chance at life... she would often tell me this. Unfortunately, my mom passed away 2.5 years after our transplant surgery. I have made it my mission since first learning of her kidney failure, and then again after her passing, to continue to spread the word and educate about the need for organ donors. I am an active advocate for organ donation in several ways:
- I currently work as a transplant nurse coordinator
- I volunteer my time with organizations that promote organ donation and kidney disease awareness
- I have mentored a few women prior to them donating their kidneys
- I have spoken at the Ohio Statehouse in support of legislation to stop insurance companies from discriminating against living donors
- I am a proud member of the Kidney Donor Athletes team (I have completed four half marathons with two more coming up this fall, one full marathon, I play rec indoor soccer & overall like to lead an active life).
By doing these things, my hope is to have inspired someone else to become an organ donor and to keep my mom's legacy of kindness and her "pay it forward" spirit alive.
