Hiking Kilimanjaro - March 2026
I'm raising money for Kidney Donor Athletes, Inc.!
I’m thrilled to be participating in the One Kidney Climb Kilimanjaro 2026, a fundraiser supporting Kidney Donor Athletes and showing that life not only continues after donation, but also allows fun new challenges!
I donated my spare (left kidney) on the 4th March 2025, and as a bit of an anniversary challenge to myself, I will be tackling Mount Kilimanjaro, aiming to hit the summit on National Kidney Donation Day (night of the 12th / morning of the 13th)
I donated my kidney for a family friend who is going to need a kidney in the future, the great thing about donating in advance is my spare gets to help the person who needs it the most, now (well back in March). My friend gets to jump to the top of the queue as soon as he needs his, and he gets to be matched with his closest match!
I'd never thought about kidney donation, until my friend brought it up, and I think for most people it's the same, however with 7,000 people waiting for a kidney in the UK, and 90,000 in the USA and sadly 12 people die every day on the waiting list, we all need to think about kidney donation, even if we don't directly know someone in need.
Kidney Donor Athletes is a community that brings together donors and potential donors, sharing experiences of donation and life post-donation, helping champion donation and the impact it has on recipients' lives.
As you may have guessed, I’m passionate about this cause and need your help! Every donation—big or small—helps me reach my fundraising goal and directly supports KDA's outreach activities and the huge impact donations can have on people's lives.
Here's how you can help:
- Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
- Help spread the word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!
Thank you for standing by me in this effort. Your support means the world to me!

pre donation parkrun
Parkrun has become a great part of life in 2024 and I'm happy to report it kept me fit in the lead up to donation, and is helping me return to fitness post donation
Post donation parkrun
gone is the running, replaced by lots and lots of walking, parkun is perfect for walking or running, and everyone is friendly and welcoming.
ready to be wheeled into surgery
Early in the morning of the 4th March, ready to go in to surgery
post surgery bliss?
Coming out of sedation after surgery - all went well (clearly!) and the road to recovery began!
Kidney donor flags
Walking back from metallica at syracuse, and we found this lovely memorial (is that valid for the living?) to kidney donors at this hospital
