Since 1988, Hackers for Hope has raised over $17mm with a mission to provide funding for local cancer center research and treatment centers in the metro New York region.  Primary benefciaries include Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell Medical Center, Bennet Cancer Center and Cannonball Kids Cancer Center.

I was honored to be asked by Hackers founders Al Smith and Tim Brown to be part of the Hackers community shortly after moving to Darien in 2016.  I mean who is going to argue with people asking me to play golf from sun-up to sun-down?  I had no idea at the time how much the Hackers community would impact my life until my wife Erin was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018.  My first call was to Al who assured me that everything would be alright and he would "activate the network".  We were overwhelmed by the response from Hackers and the incredible talent, care and professionalism of the doctors and nurses at Memorial Sloan Kettering.  Erin is doing great and is 3 years cancer free.

The primary source of fundraising for Hackers is done through an annual golf outing where a group of golfers play as many holes as possible from sun-up to sun-down (rain or shine).  My "career" best Hackers outing was playing 135 holes (with cart) although I did walk 85 holes one year when rain prevented the use of carts which was epic.  I've been honored to have family, friends, and colleagues support my fundraising efforts over the years and now I'm asking for one final donation.

Which brings us to the "Last Hurrah".  With the passing of its founders Al and Tim, this year's fundraiser will mark the end of an era.  We will meet for one final round of golf and raise many glasses to the legacy and extrordinary accomplishments of Al and Tim and the legacy of Hackers for Hope.
