My pregnancy with Savannah was not risk-free. It was not easy.

Early in the first trimester, I had an infection and was treated with 2 rounds of antibiotics. Left untreated, it could cause Stillbirth. 

I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I was treated and monitored. If left untreated, it can cause Stillbirth.

I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. I was deemed High Risk and heavily monitored. Multiple daily blood sugar checks, strong diet restrictions, extra bloodwork, and weekly non-stress tests. If left untreated, GD can cause Stillbirth. 

My labs were always perfect. My non-stress tests always textbook. I did everything I was told to do. I asked questions. I voiced concerns. 

Never once did any of my doctors mention that stillbirth was a potential outcome. Never once. 

Savannah Grace was born still on March 29, 2016. I will never know the exact cause. And I will always wonder, did I fight hard enough for her?

1 in 4 pregnancies ends in loss. 1 in 160 pregnancies results in stillbirth. There are 23,000 stillbirths annually across the U.S.  Yet, there is silence. 

In 2019, I began volunteering with the Maryland Chapter of Star Legacy Foundation, a non-profit organization, dedicated to supporting education, research, bereavement support services, and raising awareness for stillbirth prevention and healthy pregnancy outcomes.
