Hello, I am excited to share the news that I am participating in the 2019 LA Marathon with City Year Los Angeles! This event will be memorable to me because it will be my first marathon, 26.2 miles running around the city of Los Angeles. This event will be even more memorable to me because my first marathon is for a great cause. With your donation, you will make an impact on the LAUSD elementary, middle and high school students that CYLA serves.

“Echale ganas.” These were the words my family told me when I paved a new path after conquering a barrier. I was the first in my family to walk with my graduating high school class. I was the first in my family to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. As a child in the sixth grade, I was at a fourth grade reading level. It took years for me to learn English because I was navigating between two languages. Although the education system did not favor bilingual children, I was motivated to learn. My five siblings were my support system. I believe children should be in a safe environment for learning; a classroom that is a safe space of non-judgement, diverse and inclusive. I believe children should not be left behind in their studies and given opportunity to succeed. 

The marathon will take place on March 24, 2019. Thank you for your donation and hope to see you out there cheering on all the runners!
