Hello to all my friends, family, and peers -- 

This time of year is very important to my organization Literacy New Jersey, and also special to me personally. It is our annual Fundraising Week from June 27th through June 29th and I have been designated as Team Captain! 

Literacy New Jersey is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which provides free instruction to adults who need help with reading, writing, math, science, and speaking English. Trained volunteer tutors work with adults one-to-one or in small groups by helping them improve their language and literacy skills so they can reach their life goals. 

In July of 2020, I started as a volunteer tutor for HSE (High School Equivalency) students. I have always enjoyed helping others whether it be through volunteer work, teaching, or Church Mission Trips, and this was no different. 

After volunteering with Literacy New Jersey for 1.5 years, I was asked to join the staff in July of 2022 as the ESL (English as a Second Language) Coordinator for Union County. For the past year, I have successfully conducted two job skills workshops: one for tutors and one for students. In addition, I have given over 300 assessments and reassessments for students in both Middlesex and Union Counties and have successfully placed those students in appropriate classes. Finally, I have managed 80 groups of students and tutors throughout our region. Our numbers have grown exponentially allowing our budget and student intake to increase.

There are a plethora of students who still lack the resources to learn, read, write, and speak English. With your generous help, we can provide even more students quality resources to unlock their full potentials.
