Dear Friend,

Adult learners come to Literacy NJ for free ESL, GED, U.S. Citizenship and Basic Literacy classes because literacy will help them obtain a better job, a high school diploma, citizenship, or the confidence to speak to a doctor, teacher or neighbor. 

Ana received her GED high school diploma this month and said in a speech to her classmates, “This is a new beginning for us. It will open the door to better opportunity and personal growth, and I see a bright future for you and for me. Most importantly, it proves that it is never too late to believe in yourself again!”.

Ana, a student in the Literacy NJ Union County GED program, was inspiring because her first language is not English. She participated in our ESL program, then began her journey in the pre-GED program, moved on to the advanced GED program and finished testing for her high school diploma in our Returning Students program.  Ana is an inspiring example of all that adult education at Literacy NJ has to offer: ESL instruction, individualized small group GED instruction and assisting students to learn to use computers to advance their education.

Computers and laptops are essential in today's job market and in adult education.  Our GED students need to know how to take their GED test on a laptop at the test center. Our ESL students need computer skills to get a better job and help their children in school.  Literacy NJ is there to meet that challenge with our Job Skills and Digital Literacy classes.  But we need your help. Students need computers and laptops to learn and practice their new skills.  Your donation can help us provide more laptops, more instruction and train more tutors to provide these vital skills to our student. 

We need your help to continue meeting the needs of our 1,808 students and to continue training and supporting more than 400 tutors. Thousands of personal and professional goals are met by our students each year. Help us meet our goal – in three short days – and continue empowering our adult learners.
