Our story: We found out we were pregnant on September 30th and were so excited! Emma was even more excited, as she had been asking for a baby for months! It was a textbook pregnancy. Heart beat was always good, 20 week ultrasound was great and he was measuring on track. On April 15th, we had our 32 week check up. Anthony had a good heartbeat but was measuring a few weeks behind. I scheduled a growth ultrasound for 36 weeks. Two days later on Friday April 17th, I noticed that I wasn't feeling Anthony move. Emma laid down for her nap and I laid on the couch and drank some orange juice hoping to get my kick count in. After an hour I had only felt one movement. I started to worry and called the nurse line. They advised me to go to labor and delivery to get checked out but that this happens sometimes. Baby is probably just in a weird position is what I was told. Due to Covid, I went to L&D by myself. I got in my gown and the doctor came in with a doppler. She was unable to find a heartbeat so got an ultrasound machine. It was then that I saw my sweet boy with a still heart. I was told I'm so sorry but there is no heartbeat. Radiology came in and confirmed and I was sent home to process and grieve with Gill and Emma before I was to be induced the next day. To say we were shattered is an understatement. My wonderful parents took Emma while Gill and I went to the hospital. Our sweet Anthony Charles Gill was born sleeping at 9:58 pm on April 18th 2020, weighing 2 lbs. 4 oz. and 15 inches long. We spent time with him, loving him, memorizing everything about him, holding him, and grieving the little boy we would never get to see grow up. We eventually had to say goodbye and left the hospital the next morning with empty hands and broken hearts. We later found out that Anthony's death was ruled an umbilical cord accident due to an umbilical thrombosis (blood clot in the umbilical cord). Both Anthony and I were tested for any and all reasons that this may have happened and there is no answer. We couldn't be more thankful for our sweet Emma Grace who has kept us busy, kept us present, and reminded us that there is still so much good in this world. She is the best big sister and talks about her brother Anthony daily. Our friends and family have been the greatest support to us and we are so appreciative. This last year we welcomed our rainbow baby, Kamden and we are so thankful to Anthony for picking Kamden out for us and ensuring his safe arrival earthside! Here's why we are raising funds: We found Star Legacy after we lost Anthony but really became involved with them during the last 18 months. We attended a pregnancy after loss childbirth class and also Allison attended a weekly pregnancy after loss support group that was so beneficial to her mental health during Kamden's pregnancy. The walk is a way that we can support this great organization that supports families dealing with a loss and the pregnancies after loss as well. We hope you will join us!
