Our story begins on September 7th, 2014.  What began as a normal day of excitement for a routine 36 week OB checkup quickly changed our lives forever.  I arrived at my appointment in good spirits, looking forward to seeing how our little girl had grown and hearing her little heartbeat once again.  Unfortunately, during my examination, my provider was unable to find a heartbeat, which was unusual for this baby.  She sent me to ultrasound for another look, where it was confirmed that our little girl had passed away.  I had noticed the night before that she wasn't as active as usual, but thought I'd be ok and have things checked at my appointment.  Had I known then what I know now, I would have taken different steps.  I thought, she's running out of room, is in a sleepy phase, etc. (all of those myths that people may lead you to believe.)  Little did I know, babies CAN die after the 12 week "safe zone.:"  Looking back, I was extremely naieve about everything.  I was never told to be aware of decreased movements or what signs to look for other than bleeding to know if anything was possibly wrong.  I delivered our sleeping little girl the next morning, stillborn.  Stillborn.  That was a word that I didn't know existed up until those days.  In the days that followed, I learned so many things that I wish no parent would have to learn.  We were able to spend as much time as we wanted with her, had photos taken (i was unsure at first, but treasure them so much now.), planned her funeral, bought a cemetery plot, headstone, etc.  To this day we still have no reason why this happened, and it's something I struggle to accept.  In the years to follow, we experienced 3 additional losses, two at 15 weeks and one at 6 weeks.  It is my hope, that someday, no parent will experience the loss of their child by stillbirth (born after 20 weeks) or miscarriage (before 20 weeks.).  Research and Awareness are key, and that is what we hope to achieve through this fundraiser.
