Is the Long Trail Day Hike-a-Thon a competition?
NO WAY! This Hike-a-Thon is all about FUN and SUPPORT of the trails! It can be fun to set a goal, but you decide where, how far, and how long you choose to hike.
How far does our team need to hike?
CHOOSE YOUR OWN PATH! Whether your goal is 2 miles, 27 miles or 272 miles (the distance of the Long Trail from the border of Massachusetts to Canada), it makes no difference. What matters most is that you set your own Hike-a-Thon distance and fundraising goals, hike, and have fun!
Do we have to hike on Saturday, September 20?
ANY DAY IS A GREAT DAY FOR A HIKE! Green Mountain Club staff and volunteers will be on the trails and at many trailheads around the state on Long Trail Day to meet hikers and to celebrate our shared love of the trail, but there is no requirement to choose that day if another day is better for your team.
How much money do I need to raise?
YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN GOAL! Anyone is welcome to join the Hike-a-Thon, but we do encourage participants to set a fundraising goal (perhaps $272 to represent the distance of the whole Long Trail. Don’t worry, you don’t have to hike that far!)
Anyone who makes a $25 donation when registering will receive a Long Trail Day Hike-a-Thon beanie.
Where do we find out more and register to participate?
