Lydie's Loop: Steps against Stillbirth
Welcome to the FIFTH annual Lydie's Loop: Steps against Stillbirth! This event is named after Lydie Welliver, who was suddenly stillborn in 2014 at 34 weeks gestation. The Wellivers are not alone; 24,000 babies are stillborn each year in the United States. Prevention methods and education are desperately needed.
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 event will be held VIRTUALLY, allowing participants, teams and donors to continue to give, participate and raise awareness even without a central walk location.
Please like our Facebook page for updates and activities. On Saturday, September 19th, please join us for a LIVE Facebook presentation including a reading of baby names. Following this short presentation, or anytime that weekend, we invite participants to walk a one mile reflective walk or run a 5k in their own communities to honor babies lost to perinatal and neonatal death. Please share photos with us on social media using the hashtags #lydiesloop and #countthekicks.
This event benefits Count the Kicks, an organization that educates expectant parents about the importance of tracking baby movements to prevent stillbirth. Research shows that a change in movement is sometimes the only indication that a baby is in distress. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is especially important for expectant parents to understand the importance of kick counting in the third trimester, as there may be changes to regularly scheduled prenatal appointments.
