Thank you for visiting our event page. We are so excited to be back in person this year for our 20th Annual Down Syndrome Awareness Walk at Olin Park on Sunday, September 19th! 

Masks are required in indoor spaces and in high-traffic areas such as registration. Otherwise, we strongly encourage them to keep all participants safe

Although our office doors were closed for over a year, the dreams of people with Down syndrome have NOT been on hold. With your help, we were able to provide over 2,000 hours of virtual programming for our families and more than 10,970 hours of direct services in 2020. WOW! We rely on the incredible support of our community to make this happen. The majority of our programs and events are fully funded by this annual Awareness Walk, and we need YOU to help make them happen. Join us!

Event Schedule

Car Parade will kick-off event, ending at Olin Park (about 20-30 min. route)

Car Parade Starting Location: Tenney Park Boat Launch (1615 Sherman Ave. Madison, WI  53704)
11:30am  Registration & fam festival begins,  
1:30pm Welcome program, 21 Showcase, and Walk rally
2:00pm Down syndrome Awareness Walk
2:45pm Raffle winners posted. *Must be present to win*
3:00pm See you next year! 

 

General Information

We will have precautions in place to ensure the safety of all of our guests at this event. Masks are required in indoor spaces and in high-traffic areas such as registration. Otherwise, we strongly encourage them to keep all participants safe. If you are more comfortable celebrating with us from afar this year, there is a Virtual Walker registration option, which includes a t-shirt and access to all of the fun activities we will be doing online leading up to the event!! Make sure you follow our Facebook page so you don’t miss out on any of the fun!

Registration Information

Pre-register online until 12pm CST on Friday, September 18, 2021.

Registration includes day-long entry and full access to the event,  Walk, t-shirt, family festival, and snacks.

Register by August 31 at 11:59pm to be guaranteed a t-shirt on walk day. 

All Walk participants will receive a t-shirt. People who register as a Virtual Walk Participant will be sent a t-shirt to the address they provide while registering. 

Pick-Up Info: T-shirts are available to be picked up at the Walk on September 19th. T-shirt tables will be located near registration. Please designate ONE PERSON ONLY from your group or team to check in at registration, turn in all money, and pick up t-shirts.

Car Parade

We are thrilled to announce that on Walk Day we will have a meet-up and car parade again! We will meet at 10:45AM, and leave the location at 11AM promptly! The meet-up location is Tenney Park Boat Launch (1615 Sherman Ave, Madison, WI  53704). We will end the parade at Olin Park for the MADSS Awareness Walk and Family Festival!

Top Fundraising Teams are invited to lead the procession! To practice safe social distancing, you do not need to check-in upon arrival and can remain in your vehicle.

Decorate your vehicle in Down syndrome awareness colors (blue & yellow)! Wear your MADSS gear or DS swag! Make signs and posters to hang in the window! Use window markers, ribbons, flags, balloons, magnets, 3/21, Acceptance + Inclusion + Opportunity, etc. Be creative!! 

Help MADSS celebrate our individuals with Down syndrome and raise awareness in our community! Invite your family, friends, co-workers, community connections. Everyone is invited! Let's get as many cars as we can and flood the streets! Please fill out this short sign-up form to join us.

Launch a Virtual Team

If you cannot attend in person or if you are more comfortable celebrating with us from afar, you can register as a Virtual Walker! When you sign up for this option, you commit to run or walk in honor of your loved one with Down syndrome.

Your activity can be any distance you want: 3.21 miles or laps around your block, 321 yards, or 21 miles. Get creative and have fun! Then, post photos of your walk/run on MADSS Facebook Page. Virtual Walker registration includes a Walk shirt, which will be shipped directly to you (USA only), and all of our virtual activites. Register by Tuesday, August 31 at 11:59pm to receive your t-shirt by Walk Day.

The Virtual 21 Showcase & Awards Ceremony

We will host our 21 Showcase where individuals with Down syndrome of ALL ages will get a chance to walk the catwalk in front of their family and friends.

The deadline to sign up for the 21 Showcase has passed. Deadline to submit was Friday, September 10!
