What can we find you doing when you're not whipping up a dish for Men Who Cook?

I enjoy spending time with my family (wife Julie and 6-year-old son Jacob), traveling, and playing golf. I'm a huge sports fan and enjoy watching my favorite teams; the NC State Wolfpack, Washington Commanders, and Carolina Hurricanes.

Why is it important to you to give back (to the SECU Family House)?

With SECU's motto of "People Helping People" it is important we give back to the communities in which we serve. I'm passionate about the Family House because hopefully a clean room, a warm meal, and a few smiling faces can ease the stress and burden on those with loved ones in the hospital.

What was the first thing you remember cooking?

The first thing I remember cooking on my own was burgers and steamed shrimp for a cookout with friends in high school.

Name a fun fact people may not know about you.

One of my life goals is to visit all 50 states. So far, I've been to 23 so almost halfway there!

I love to travel and spend time outdoors with my wife and two children. I love gardening, fishing, backpacking and hiking.

Why is it important to you to give back (to the SECU Family House)?

I think that it is important to support great community organizations such as the Family House. I like to stay busy and what better way to fill your spare time than giving back to others.

What was the first thing you remember cooking?

My first dish was my grandmother's fruit salad. She instilled a love of cooking and volunteering in me at a young age. To this day, my favorite dishes to cook for others are her recipes.

Over the course of my 42 years, I have spent at least 1 year living out of a tent.
