I'm Racing, Raising, and Reveling for Mile High 360!
Friends and Family -
Before I dive into all of the great things about Mile High 360 (I am the Executive Director and a bit biased), let me be clear that I am not in great cycling shape, so I am going to need to rely on some serious fundraising to stay in contention. I am the old member of the team and don't want to drag us down. You will see some pictures of students, below, and I'll post some pics of my efforts along the way.
Let me introduce you to Mile High 360 (MH360), a Denver-based nonprofit working with first-generation college-bound students, and their families, from two of Denver's Title 1 schools, Byrant Webster and CEC. Learning to go to college takes time and a lot of resources; this is where Mile High 360 comes in. MH360's students join in 6th grade and participate in essential out-of-school-time activies for 14 consecutive years. Through year-round support in four interconnected areas (Academics, Health and Wellness, Life Skills, and Mentoring) and 2-Gen work with the families, students blaze new trails to and through postsecondary institutions (MH360 even covers the cost of postsecondary degrees). It is a wonderful organization - students, staff, and volunteers grow up together, supporting each other and learning about the first-generation college journey.
- 100% of students matriculate to the next grade level on time
- 87% of students are in a postsecondary instituions (E.g., CSU, MSU, CU, Western, Stanford, CCD, and Cornell University)
- 52% female and 48%male
- 99% Hispanic
- 99% qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch
I am racing in the R3 Team Time Trial to raise funds for the Health and Wellness program, in particular. This includes: nutrition and cooking classes, cycling and cross training, mental health sessions and access to counseling, daily meals, and human development classes. Two full-time Health and Wellness Coordinators arrange and oversee all Health and Wellness activities.
The R3 Team Time Trial is a bit unique - it isn't just about time. I get to race the course as many times as I want (I have to submit my fastest time). The kicker is that I get to subtract 1 second of time per every dollar I raise. This is where my friends and family come in. I'd like you to join me (my registration was $250) and donate $25, $50, or $100. There is not an option to donate more. All of your donation will be applied to programming costs.
And, this is important, you will Not End Up On A Mailing List. You will receive a donation recept but that is it.
I'd love for you to join in...
Thanks,
Eric
