I am an Early Learning Specialist, here at Zeno. I go out into the communities that we serve and spread the joys of Math. This has been an extremely meaningful program to be a part of, because as a mother of 4 with limited resources, I have seen 1st hand, the importance of math and the harm of math fear and racial bias. Some children, especially Black, Tribal and other children of color are told from an early age that they are not ‘math worthy’.
My daughters were lucky to have teachers (and had support from Zeno )who gave them the affirmation that they needed to hear in order to be confident in their experiences in math. However, most children of color do not have this opportunity. But if these children can receive a positive early introduction to math, there is a magical thing that happens when a child gets excited about math. A spark you can feel as a door opens endless opportunities. By going into classrooms, I have experienced the joy that comes from a child who is having fun with math. This is why Zeno is imperative to the early education of children.
