Before October 7th, 2014, I had never heard the word "Stillbirth" or had any clue what it meant.  I had made it past the 12 week mark... everything should be good right?  Needless to say, we were SO wrong.  During my routine 36 week check-up, my provider was unable to find a heartbeat with doppler or arouse our little girl to get her to kick.  She immediately sent me to Ultrasound, where it was confirmed that our little girl had passed away at 36 weeks.  I went on to deliver her that next day, and bury her a week later.  I had noticed she wasn't moving as much as normal the night before, but reasoned that "baby is running out of room", or "I have my appointment tomorrow, and we'll be fine until then."  Had I known then what I know now, I would have taken action to have her checked out immediately.  We will never know if that could have made a difference and kept her alive.  We will never have those "firsts" that we were so looking forward to.  This year, she should have been walking into pre-school for the first time and beginning her journey of learning.  Our Daughter, Presli JoAnn, was our first loss at 36 weeks from no known cause.  Technically termed a Stillbirth.  In the next 4 years, we will also lose 3 more (15 weeks, 15 weeks, and 6 weeks).  When I found the Star Legacy Foundation, I immediately wanted to become more involved in raising awareness and helping educate expecting mothers, providers, and healthcare systems the importance of educating parents about Stillbirth and miscarriage.  Any donation will be appreciated and used to further our commitment to awareness, research, and education regarding pregnancy and infant loss.
