The Pinky Swear Story

In December of 2002, nine-year-old Mitch Chepokas, terminally ill with bone cancer, withdrew the entire $6,000 from his savings account and put it in envelopes for kids on the pediatric oncology floor at the hospital.

After giving all of his money away, Mitch’s dad made a pinky swear promise with him to always help children with cancer and their families after he was gone.

Mitch passed away on April 11, 2003, and shortly afterwards, Pinky Swear Foundation was established by his parents to honor the promise he made.

Thank you for volunteering to help kids with cancer

Help support kids with cancer and their families by volunteering this holiday season!

Volunteers are needed to assist with the Pinky Swear All-Star Letter Writing Lounge in the Macy’s Court at Mall of America. Volunteers will act as “Santa’s Elf.” As “Santa’s Elf” you will be helping to collect information for those that write a letter of encouragement to a Pinky Swear All-Star via Google Form that Pinky Swear will have setup on iPads. This information will be sent to Santa who will then mail some special surprises courtesy of his friends at Mall of America. Volunteers are expected to be on-time and to be courteous to all of those at Mall of America: customers, staff and visitors. Volunteers will also assist in selling Pinky Swear Foundation ornaments for a donation.

Mission: Helping kids with cancer and their families with financial and emotional support.

Families plan for college — not for cancer. Pinky Swear provides families facing cancer with financial and emotional support, including grants for stable housing, reliable transportation, utilities, food and weekend getaways. So they can focus on what’s most important: their child battling cancer.

Even if you’re not participating in the event, you can still fundraise and help support the Pinky Swear mission! Use the link below to set up a fundraising page in honor of an event in your life or just because you want to help. Thank you for your support!
