After a two-year hiatus, I have decided to step back into running (and fundraising) for cures!
I am very excited (and a little nervous) to be participating in the Mushroom Cap Half Marathon and Relay event on November 3, 2018. My motivation for signing up this year is to raise funds for childhood cancer research at Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. Why would I run without a cause?
Sadly, cancer touches many children’s lives. These little heroes need to endure harsh treatments and numerous days in the hospital. They have to miss the little joys of childhood from playing on the swings, watching movies on the coach with their siblings and even spending the holidays at home.
I continue to think of the young heroes I had the honor of knowing when my previous career put me in the path of children battling blood cancers at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital. I met several who were celebrating survivorship and you never would have known that at one point they feared for their lives. And I met one young lady who relapsed and unfortunately lost her battle--to this day I wish I had done more to rally volunteers to encourage her during those final weeks.
My hope is that we will find cures and better treatments so they live long and healthy lives. I believe every child deserves the chance of a healthy future. Please join me in that fight.
Despite the thermometer on the right, my goal is really $620--in honor of the 6.2 miles I will be running on November 3rd. Please consider making a donation on my page. Your gift helps Nemours provide unsurpassed care, pioneer new treatments and find life-saving cures for children.
Please make a donation today to make a difference in children's lives now—and for lifetimes to come.
