Meadow had other plans

I love all animals, but Chesapeake Bay Retrievers have a special place in my heart. I adopted one that had a tail like an English  (her name was Stubby). She turned out to be one of the best hunting dogs ever. After she passed away; I went through some hard times because she was there for me thick or thin. I was used to coming home early or late and she was so happy to see me.

I decided to get another Chesapeake Bay Retriever because they fit my lifestyle. I drove down to Scottsville Kentucky to pick up a male Chessie, but an onry female had different plans. She followed me and nipped at my pant legs. I had a VW Golf at the time with a kennel anchored down in the hatch; when I opened it up to put the male pup in the kennel she jumped in instead.

The owner looked at me and smiled it looks you were chosen, what do you want to do?

I said I'll take her. He warned me she was very wild and if it did not work out he would take her back.

After at least 100 pairs of chewed socks,  scent test, tracking test, hundreds of miles walked and swam at Homer lake I would not change it for the World.

A majority of Meadows socialization was at Triptych. The atmosphere was perfect for it. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers need socialization or they can be a handful. I appreciate that Triptych and their employees helped us out in her socialization skills.

When I have time off she rides around with me country crusing listing to music. Her favorite song is Sweet Amarillo by Old Crow Medicine Show. She doesn't bark, but she howls when this song comes on.

About the Organization

The Champaign County Humane Society is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping companion animals healthy, housed, and looking for homes. Our shelter has been open to the Champaign County community since 1954, and we've helped thousands and thousands of animals find their forever home. Last year alone, about 1,700 pets found families through CCHS, thanks to donors like you.

As an independent nonprofit, our shelter, adoptions, and education programs rely on the generosity of this community, and the passion of supporters who fundraise on our behalf. We do not receive funding from local government entities, and we are not a branch of any national animal welfare nonprofits.
