Thank you for checking out our family's fundraising page. We are proud to walk for Louis, our almost 2 year old heart warrior. This year is extra special because Louis is able to walk with us!
Louis was born with DORV (double outlet right ventricle), VSD (venticular septum defect), ASD (atrial septal defect), PDA (patent ductus arteriosus), and a hypoplastic aortic arch. Louis underwent a 12 hour open heart surgery when he was just 5 days old. During surgery he suffered multiple life threatening complications. Unfortunately, in the first few days post surgery, he suffered even more life threatening complications. He also suffered from vocal cord paralysis and required a feeding tube for 10 months. He was, and continues to be, a little fighter.
After a rough start, he is now a wild, fearless, clever toddler who is doing amazingly well. We are eternally grateful to the doctors and nurses at Boston Children's and for all research into treatments and surgical advances in the arterial switch operation. Without that research, knowledge, and expertise, Louis' story would not be the same. We are walking to raise money for CHD research so that more families have hope, and more heart warriors can thrive.
This year, we're walking with extra purpose as The Children's Heart Foundation celebrates 30 incredible years of funding research that saves lives and changes futures. CHF has been the leading force behind the treatments and surgical advances that help children with congenital heart defects thrive.
It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward the next 30 years of hope. This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation's crucial mission—advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research that improves survival rates, reduces complications, and helps Heart Warriors celebrate more birthdays than ever before.
