This year, I’m participating in the Congenital Heart Walk for a very personal reason—my 5-month-old son, Ezra, is a Heart Warrior.

In May, what we thought was a simple visit to his pediatrician turned out into an emergency run to the hospital.  Our 8 weeks old Ezra was suffering from a rare congenital heart defect called ALCAPA. Ezra was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, where he went into heart failure, suffered cardiac arrest, required over 40 minutes of CPR, was placed on ECMO, and ultimately underwent two open-heart surgeries. By the grace of God and the incredible doctors and nurses who fought for him, Ezra is home with us today.

Our family has experienced firsthand how important research, medical advances, and specialized heart care are. That is why supporting The Children’s Heart Foundation means so much to me.

As CHF celebrates 30 years of funding research that saves lives and changes futures, I’m honored to walk alongside other Heart Warriors and their families. Every donation helps support research that can give children like Ezra the chance to grow, heal, and celebrate many more birthdays.
