Three years ago, my dad received the news that no one wants to get: he was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. He immediately started aggressive treatment, and his progress has been nothing short of miraculous. New medical advances have helped him not only survive but thrive.
While I was in college in Houston, he would come down for treatment every so often. Not only was it special to spend some time with my dad, but I saw firsthand how active the field of research for pancreatic cancer was and just how promising some directions look.
In the fall of 2024, he ran the Marine Corps Marathon while undergoing active treatment. To really hammer it in, we're running it back: my dad and I are planning to run the New York Marathon together this year.
Thousands of dads, moms, sisters, and brothers receive the same news every year. We are so close to a breakthrough in treating many of these types of cancers.
