My name is Bethany Holden, and I'm a South Carolina native currently working and living in Washington, D.C. I come from a very large, close-knit Greek family, so when my young and otherwise healthy Uncle Yale was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, the news felt almost impossible to comprehend. 

He immediately began aggressive treatment, and now more than three years later, he hasn't just survived; he has truly lived life to the fullest. In the fall of 2024, while undergoing treatment, he even ran the Marine Corps Marathon. 

This year, Uncle Yale was going to run the New York City Marathon, but a new treatment regimen means he unfortunately will no longer be able to. So when I received a text from him asking if I wanted to run in his place, there was no hesitation. I was in!

On November 1, I'll run the NYC Marathon alongside his son and my cousin, Noah. I can't imagine a greater honor than running on behalf of Uncle Yale and alongside Noah. And while he may not be running this time around, he will be cheering Noah and me, along with my Aunt Elaine, from the streets of NYC every step of the way. I am incredibly proud to raise money for this cause and hopefully one day find a cure.
