Tonight, somewhere in Brooklyn, a woman is being released from Rikers with nowhere to go A mother is packing what she can carry, not sure where she and her kids will sleep next week. This November I am running the NYC Marathon for Providence House, the organization that meets people in exactly that moment with a bed, with help.

We are part of the community where Providence House does this work every day. It’s not an abstraction to us. These are our neighbors, and the line between stability and crisis is thinner than most of us like to admit. Providence House has been standing in that gap since 1979, helping women get out of the system instead of back into it, and helping kids sleep somewhere safe instead of in a shelter intake office.

Every mile I run through these streets is full of reminders of what’s at stake for these women, these moms, their kids. If you can, please chip in. It goes straight to making sure the next person Providence House meets gets help too.
