Five years ago, I started my journey at Tennyson High School in South Hayward with one goal: to create a safe and supportive space for youth through soccer.

Since then, I have had the privilege to serve over 400 young people across elementary, middle, and high schools through Soccer Without Borders. Together, we have shared summer camps, soccer clinics, and year-long programs.

I have seen students walk in as shy freshmen and cross the graduation stage as confident seniors. Some have gone to college. Others returned to finish high school and earn their diplomas. Many have become leaders and mentors in their own communities.

I have shared meals, laughter, and life moments like getting a first job or driver’s license. I have seen youth overcome challenges and find hope when life felt uncertain. I have also walked with them through tough moments and learned what it means to truly show up for one another.

Hayward has become my adoptive hometown. It is the place where I have grown as a coach, educator, parent, and community advocate.

That is why I am stepping onto the field for Small Goals Big Change, a 5v5 fundraising tournament that supports Soccer Without Borders programs. I am forming a team of SWB Tennyson alumni, community members, and players from the Bay Area Dynamo, a team I founded in 2012.

Together, we will play not just for fun, but to make a difference for the next generation of Hayward youth.

Donations at any level are greatly appreciate. Here are some examples of what your giving will support:

• $50 – provide a team with healthy snacks or support costs for educational materials used for academic support.
• $100 – help cover game day referee and field fees, so that an SWB team can play for free.
• $250 – purchase training equipment, like cones, small goals and rope ladders.
• $500 – fund a field trip, workshop or other team-building activity for personal development.
• $1,000 and above – help fund a coach, educator or mentor position, supporting SWB staff who work with youth every day to reach their full potential as athletes, students and individuals.
