Hike-A-Thon 2017!
PLC's HIke-A-Thon is a new way for YOU to support conservation efforts in our community!
Registration is open until Friday, December 16th!
It's easy as 1-2-3:
- Register and pick a hike location!
- Ask your friends, family, coworkers...anyone...to sponsor your New Year's Day Hike by making a donation in any amount!
- Hit the trail on January 1st and start the year in the outdoors raising money for conservation!
Committ to a goal of $300 or higher and receive a free Hike-A-Thon hat!

Our suggested hike locations:
Knight-Brown Nature Preserve, Rockingham County
Our flagship hike will be held at this PLC owned nature preserve. Join us starting at 10am on Hike Day for an approximate 6-mile hike through a wooded valley, two gently rippling streams, many different types of ferns,and the rare eastern leatherwood shrub.
We'll have snacks, water, music, and PLC staff on hand to cheer you on!
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate.
Our other suggested locations range in length and difficulty in the hopes that hikers of all skill levels will participate. Several are shorter and ideal for families.

Pilot Mountain State Park, Surry County
Grindstone Trail. 3.0 miles one-way. Difficulty: Strenuous
PLC partnered with PMSP to expand the park in 2015.

Hanging Rock State Park, Stokes County
Riverbluffs Trail. 1.3 miles. Difficulty: Moderate
PLC has helped to add over 400 acres to Hanging Rock State Park over the years!

Historic Bethania, Forsyth County
Black Walnut Bottom Trail. 1.4 miles. Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
PLC has worked to permanently protect 168 acres of Bethania’s historic natural landscape!

Evergreen Trail. 1 mile. Difficulty: Easy
The 92-acre Julian and Ethel Clay Price Park is protected by a conservation easement held by PLC!

Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway, Guilford County
7.5 Miles. Difficulty: Moderate (paved trail)
In 1996, PLC helped the City of Greensboro and Guilford County construct portions of the greenway!

Mayo River State Park, Rockingham County
Mayo Mountain Loop Trail. 1.80 miles. Difficulty: Moderate
Since 2004 PLC has acquired 21 properties totaling 1,755 acres for the Mayo River State Park!

Shallow Ford Natural Area, Alamance County
This 190 acre natural area contains approximately 5 miles of hiking trails and is part of the Haw River Trial/Mountains to Sea Trail. PLC has worked with the Haw River Trail Partnership which established this natural area.

Richardson-Taylor Preserve, Guilford County
The Bill Craft Trail. Approx. 7 mile loop. Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
A favorite hiking location of several PLC staffers and supporters!
