Zelda Kathleen Taylor here.  German Shepherd Dog (GSD).  Trusted and loyal companion animal, office assistant, alarm system, sock sorter, and sketchy people evaluator.  

I was named Zelda by one of Mom's former teammates at the shelter where I was surrendered for being "extra".  Middle name, Kathleen, after Mom's Nana's best friend.  Because I AM woman's best friend.  BTW - Zelda was the name of Mom's other Grandma's best friend so it all makes sense - at least to us Southerners.  

I was surrendered to a shelter at the tender age of 6 months.  I met a friendly Intake Coordinator named Michael who helped me.  As Michael and I were heading to an empty kennel for me, I explained to him that absolutely, positively, under no circumstances could I EVER enter that kennel (or any kennel really).  

Michael understood.  He took me home to foster.  He christened me Zelda and (don't tell anyone) he also let me sleep in his bed.  Shelter people are the absolute best!

The next day, Michael and I went back to the shelter.  We headed to my now Mom's office where Michael said, "Good morning Ellen!  I have your new dog!  I've named her Zelda for you!" 

As Carrie Bradshaw would say, "and just like that"...I became Zelda Kathleen Taylor. 

It's now 8 years  2 moves, more sheppies, and a 3-legged, bossy Pitbull sister later.  Being surrendered to a shelter was the very best thing that ever happened to me!
