I was recently inspired by the character Andy Dwyer and his counterpart Johnny Karate with his “5 Moves to Success” on the sublime comedy Parks and Recreation. He encouraged kids everyday to “Make Something, Learn Something, Karate Chop Something, Try Something New (even if it’s scary for you), and Be Nice to Someone.” I had watched the show before but this time it hit me differently. I was really impressed with the advice for children and thought that it could be even more helpful for us grown children. We can get complacent, but it is important for us to continue to challenge ourselves in an effort to never stop growing.
Today I decided to try something new even if it is scary for me. I want to share my recent experiences/understanings working at the stellar nonprofit Kitsap Humane Society. And ask for your support for my team Jurassic Bark in the upcoming Pet’s Walk event on June 1st in Poulsbo WA. Please share the link on your social media to help raise awareness and help increase engagement. Also, if you can please consider donating. However small or large your donation is it is very very appreciated and will help touch many many lives. The money raised will be able to provide so much good for the dogs, cats, bunnies, chickens, roosters, rats, and Guinea pigs in our care. But also, countless community members that are helped daily from food pantry, other donations, fostering, volunteering, surrendering, adopting, training, the list goes on and on.
I just finished another week working with inspiring kindhearted people (staff and volunteers) at the Kitsap Humane Society. Every day there is a new day where I am learning, teaching, cleaning, feeding, caring, helping, loving, and more. My current job title is Life Saving Assistant. We are a part of the Animal Care team as well as Adoptions and we help keep vaccines up to date supporting our Veterinary Clinic. This wide array of job responsibilities provides me with a semi unique broad view of the larger process, responsibility, and the importance a well-run animal shelter can have on the welfare of the community as a whole. From helping people needing assistance to keep their own animals well at home, to the sad stories of people having to surrender a loved pet due to an array of issues out of their control, to the joy of introducing dogs/cats to their new families witnessing tears of joy as we try our best to set them all up for success. It is amazing to see the positive impact that this place has on so many peoples’ and animals’ lives.
