I'm walking for a cure
Our family is walking in support of Gary, who has been living with pulmonary fibrosis since 2014. Back then, Gary began experiencing shortness of breath while he was running a race. He immediately went to his primary care doctor, who quickly referred Gary to a pulmonologist.
This is when we received the news that he had pulmonary fibrosis.
Gary’s diagnosis was unsettling since we had never heard of pulmonary fibrosis before then and Gary had always been very healthy. He would walk or run up to 4-5 miles every day and participated in many endurance challenges.
Since his diagnosis, Gary has been on many anti fibrotic/ anti inflammatory medications while also participating in different drug trials. The medications have kept Gary stable until November 2025, when he contracted double pneumonia. Since then, his breathing capacity has lessened substantially. Gary now requires oxygen at least 50% of the time.
This is why we are encouraging all of our family and friends to walk for this cause. The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation is the only organization invested in finding a cure for this debilitating disease.
