The Village

Jungle Kids

I am very excited to be participating in the PTATC this summer in an effort to support children's cancer research at a very important organization in our community.  Let me share with you why I think Children's of Minnesota is very special.  Many of you are familiar  with the Jung "tornado": Marissa (9), Katie (7), and Tyson (5).  But did you know that it takes a village to raise a child (or three)?, this is certainly not a parent-only job!  We learned this from nurse Sandy just over seven years ago.  She and the other Children's employees were part of the village that watched over Katie every day 24 hours for nearly 8 months at the Minneapolis Children's hospital.  Sandy did her best to care as much for the parents as the patient.  Nurse Kathy would give Heidi the daily update after rounds during Heidi's lunch break.  Nurses Deb and Debbie were frequently monitoring Katie and even caught a problem with Katie's tummy.  Laura played with Marissa nearly every weekday night in the sibling play area, so we could visit with Katie.  The workers in the STAR cafeteria knew we would be coming straight from work and kept the doors open a little past 6:30 so we could have supper.  Lastly the doctors worked together to treat the mystery that was Katie's tummy.

Please support our village by taking a moment to donate to this great instituiton  and important cause.
