Isabella, Izzie, is an amazing seven years old girl who has Rett Syndrome. A nureological disorder that affects her every day. I am excited to be part of her team for the 2018 Disney Princess Half Marathon and cannot wait to run for her.
About Rett Syndrome
Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder. It is caused by decreased production of an imperative brain protein. Rett Syndrome affects females. Every 90 minutes another young girl is born with Rett. Between the ages of one and three little girls lose their skills that they gained to that point. Most girls cannot speak, walk, or use their hands. It is as common as Cystic Fibrosis, Huntington's, and ALS.
The good news is that girls with Rett have much higher levels of mental function than previously thought and it is possibly reversible through introducing the protein.
