My sister, Kristin, was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer in September 2018, just 2 days after her 37th birthday. She was initially diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, but we would find out 2 months later that it was actually gastric (stomach) cancer. After many rounds of chemo and being in and out of the hospital, she made the decision for hospice care and passed away on January 29, 2019, just 4 short months after her diagnosis. She left behind a husband, 6 step-children, her parents, her sister, a niece and nephew, and many friends and family members who all miss her greatly. I am running this race in honor of her life, her strength, her humor, and her positive attitude in her final months. "Life may give you a cactus, but you don't have to sit on it."
