August 23 2020 I got in an ATV accident in Middlebrook VA breaking my leg. I was on the way back home (to Ashburn) when I had a seizure and got rushed to the hospital. it turns out I had an AVM in my brain that ruptured. an AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels in the brain that affects less than 1% of the population. this rupture caused a hemorrhagic stroke. simply put I had a rare stroke at only 24. I started going to LTR fall 2021 in a wheelchair. I came in a wheelchair and only rode the Miracult. I was excited because I could walk with my instructor in my wheelchair as I used the handles like a walker. I started transitioning out of my wheelchair & bringing my cane but wasn’t confident with it - I would use the stalls to advance forward, but riding still wasn’t in my plans. Fast forward to April 2026, when my physical therapist said I should ride. So I told my instructor ( caitlin) & we made a plan - she would be my instructor and Alan and Wendy would be my side walkers. Now I ride at LTR and couldn’t be happier. My progress in this program is all thanks to the instructors/volunteers that support me. I will always be grateful for LTR in my stroke journey - physically and mentally.
