Why I Ride

Thank You For Your Support Dear Friends: For the past six years, I have been part of the Team Samaritan House cycling team, and to date we have raised over $375,000 for the Samaritan House homeless shelter in Denver, Colorado (Over $124,000 raised last year – thanks!). Last year, Cap’n Tom Schwein, and I (co-captain) assembled a team of 33 riders and this year we have 44 riders! Tis years 447-mile trek will push us to climb more than 32,000 feet over the course of sen days, beginning Sunday June 11 and ending June 17. The event will hit the towns of Alamosa, Pagosa Springs, Durango, Ridgway — a first-time stop for the tour — Montrose, Gunnison and Salida. “Team Samaritan House” is riding again to help those less fortunate than ourselves! The Samaritan House “shelter system” supplies close to 25% of the shelter housing available to families in the Denver area; Holy Rosary at Samaritan House which provides needed overnight stay for homeless women in the Denver metro-area; Father Ed Judy House which provides transitional housing and support for women and their children; and The Mission and Guadalupe Shelter which serves men, women, and children in Larimer and Weld country, respectively. We serve men, women, and children facing homelessness. We help them find a path to self-sufficiency. It is amazing how generous friends and family have been – THANK YOU! At this time, I am accumulating pledges in any amount to help support our cause. Our goal this year is to exceed $150,000. To make it easier to track sponsors this year, if you wish to pledge, please click on my name at: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/account/490356/ The Samaritan House Shelter has a grown once again, and a new womens shelter is being constructed on Smith Road. Last year we learned that the largest growing segment of homeless is single women over the age of 60. If you want to pledge to a specific shelter, please indicate that. If you feel the need to write a check I ask you at that time to make your tax-deductible contribution payable to: Samaritan House 4045 Pecos Street Denver, CO 80211 Memo Line: Ride the Rockies (Tom Dea) To learn more about the Shelters, go to http://www.ccdenver.org/housing-shelter/ To learn more about Ride the Rockies go to http://www.ridetherockies.com/.
