BEYOND RELEASE: RECOVERY AFTER HOSTAGE-TAKING AND WRONGFUL DETENTION

On September 23, the Foley Foundation will issue Beyond Release: Recovery After Hostage-Taking and Wrongful Detention, a nonpartisan, independent research report examining the lived experiences of Americans who have returned from unjust captivity abroad. As more Americans have been brought home over the past 12 years, the challenges they face during recovery have become increasingly apparent. This research seeks to inform and strengthen the services and support available to returning hostages and wrongful detainees. 

The report seeks to inform executive branch policymaking and congressional legislation. It identifies where changes could better support survivors of hostage-taking and wrongful detention. 

This event brings together returnees, advocates from the NGO community, and U.S. officials to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations.
