Back Jack . . . do it again. One of the best trips Jack, Annie, John, and I ever took was to Hawaii in August 2010. With Gramma and PopPop, the six of us escaped to a place Jack longed to visit and found a little slice of peace during one of Jack's "healthy" remissions. From the moment we returned home, Jack wanted to return. Through ongoing relapses, we promised Jack we would get him back. And we did in August 2012, just weeks before he found his ultimate cure in Heaven. Though he was too sick to truly enjoy the trip, we made the best of it while also making near daily trips to Kapi'olani Women and Children's Hospital in Honolulu. The amazing physician that saw us, Dr. Randy Wada, has a special place in my heart for being so kind, so thoughtful, and so accommodating of Jack's needs. He was a member of the Beat Childhood Cancer Research Consortium and I never dreamed how important that connection would truly become. Upon seeing each other again at the BeatCC Research Consortium annual meeting 10 years later in 2022 as the Executive Director of BeatCC, imagine how truly honored I was that Dr. Wada remembered Jack and our family. In honor of Jack's love of Hawaii and my gratitude for the opportunity for children to receive care from a dedicated medical team Honolulu, I am WALKING all 26.2 miles of the Honolulu Marathon on December 13 with an audacious team goal of raising $26,200 so other children and families feel the orange joy and hope that will forever personify Jack. #foreverbackingjack
