Hi, I’m Zac. Over the past 13 years as an ICU nurse (and the last 7 years as a travel nurse), I’ve worked in dozens of hospitals all across the country.
No matter where I’ve gone, one thing has always been consistent: the people I get to work alongside. Truly the greatest honor of my life has been to work with so many incredible clinicians who show up on the hardest days with skill, compassion and care.
I see how much they carry and how often they keep going without much support themselves. I’ve also seen so many firsthand examples of clinicians navigating stress, balancing the demands of the job with real life outside the hospital, and still finding a way to show up for their patients.
That’s what this is about for me.
I wanted to find a way to give back to those clinicians that felt direct and meaningful, something that would truly reach clinicians when and where they needed support. That’s what led me to FIGS and the Awesome Humans Foundation. They are the only nonprofit I know of that provides direct financial support to clinicians who are struggling and in need, and they also provide tuition grants for the next generation, investing back into the people who give so much of themselves every day.
To help bring attention to this and raise funds for the Awesome Humans Foundation, I’ll be running the Colfax Marathon in Denver on May 17th in my FIGS scrubs.
The right support at the right time can make a huge difference for a clinician in need. It can help someone stay in the profession, continue their education or simply get through a difficult season. At some point, all of us have been impacted by the care of a clinician. This is an opportunity to give back to the clinician community in a way that is tangible and purposeful.
