Thousand Waves and Seido Karate have taught me how to do cool kata, how to defend myself and others, how to be a better teacher, and how to believe in myself when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Thousand Waves is a non-profit center “that fosters fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking by promoting healthy minds and bodies through violence prevention, self-defense and traditional martial arts for adults and children of all ages.” The money that we raise during our Spirit Challenge ensures that Thousand Waves programs are available to all regardless of economic status. Our ASK (Adapted Seido Karate) Program is funded by the generosity of our donors. On Sundays, I join a group of dedicated TW volunteers to teach Seido Karate and TW Self-Defense to a group of children with disabilities.
