Almost 8 years ago, I started training at Thousand Waves Martial Arts and Self-Defense Center. In those eight years, I’ve become a better person, met some of my closest friends, and have risen to the top of my game.

 One thing has always stood out for me. A memory from when I was 8 years old. When I went to a fundraising event for Thousand Waves, a friend from my school, Jeffrey had wheeled past me. He could not use his legs, and was in a wheelchair. I thought that he was just here to support me. However, when I finally got into the place we were working out for the event, our teacher announced the ASK program, which allowed anyone with a disability to still take karate for free.

Seeing Jeffrey and all these people who can’t do so many things able to do something to protect themselves and physically demanding was one of the greatest feelings that I’ve ever experienced.

Thousand Waves can create great opportunities not only for people with disabilities, but also sends out members to schools to teach children how to defend themselves. And they do all this at no cost to the people benefiting from these programmes. They pay for these programmes via donations from you!
