Personal Upheaval
A few weeks ago, I had the good fortune to attend a retreat during which I was empowered with three essential questions:
Who am I?
What am I bringing to life?
What am I transforming?
Beyond giving me lots to think about, the intervening weeks have seen me purchase a bicycle and complete my first bike ride in 30 years, change jobs and rededicate myself to martial arts. My training at Thousand Waves has always supported the work that I do in the rest of my life: empowerment, social justice and peacemaking, as well as challenging me to push beyond my happily sedentary and largely solitary lifestyle. Practicing martial arts is most assuredly something that I want to bring to life for myself and others; I see it as a vehicle for personal and community transformation through Violence Prevention, the Adapted Seido Karate and scholarships for all of Thousand Waves’ programs in the earnest belief that one wave sets thousands in motion.
