My name is Ruben Whitaker. I started training in karate at Thousand Waves almost eight years ago. Thousand Waves is a wonderful place that teaches karate to people of all ages and abilities. Karate has had a huge impact on my life both mentally and physically. It has made me stronger in every way possible. For more than half my life I have been at Thousand Waves and it means the world to me. Whenever I have a problem or have had worries karate has always helped clear, calm, and focus my body and mind. Karate helps you forget about your problems. Thousand Waves provides not only karate but also self- defense workshops to help women, men and children defend themselves in dangerous situations. Thousand Waves is a non for profit organization that has been helping to end violence and create peace. Please contribute to the Spirit Challenge so Thousand Waves will be there for me and all the other students and teachers. Your contribution will also fund scholarships for deserving students because everyone should have the opportunity to learn karate. Finally, your contribution will help fund the ASK program which serves disabled children by bringing them karate too. I have seen some of the kids in the ASK program over the years at tests and tournaments and they are so strong and just as skilled as anyone at Thousand Waves. Every penny will count and make an impact. I will be partaking in a week of very hard physical challenges in addition to my fund raising efforts. That's what the Spirt Challenge is all about.
