In July of 2025 I'll be participating in my 12th annual Seek the Peak, a fundraiser in support of the legendary non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. Each of the last few years I have said that one of these years will be my last. I guess I have not reached that point quite yet.
After my first Seek the Peak attempt 11 years ago, I acknowledged that getting to the summit and back in a day is no longer a realistic goal, so I prefer to think of this as Seek Your Peak – which really means finding an adventure of some sort that I can accomplish in the middle two weeks of July. I’ll identify my “Peak,” probably a bike ride somewhere in Grand Isle VT. (That will coincide with her "virtual Prouty" fundraiser.) Last year, we spent several hours kayaking and picnicking on Grafton Pond, Grafton NH.
Please join me in supporting this storied institution by donating towards my outdoor adventure. All gifts are fully tax-deductible and will help Mount Washington Observatory continue their important work in the Home of the World’s Worst Weather. (Once again, my goal is $750.) You can do this here online or by sending a check to Seek the Peak, Mount Washington Observatory, 2779 White Mountain Highway, PO Box 2310, North Conway, NH 03860. If sending a check, please put my name in the memo line.
Due to the generosity of supporters like you, the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory has been observing and reporting on Mount Washington’s infamous conditions for 90+ years from their mountaintop weather station, maintaining one of North America's longest continuous climate records. The data they collect is utilized in forecasting models, weather reports, landmark climate research and educational outreach. The free daily forecasts that the Observatory provides are an essential resource for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors in New Hampshire's White Mountains and beyond. The increase in the amount of research they are doing is truly impressive.
