Help me SEND IT this SENDtember!
This September, I’m joining the Send It Foundation’s SENDtember challenge and setting a goal to hike 75 miles around Lake Tahoe while raising money for a community that has become pretty special to me.
Send It provides free outdoor adventures for young adult cancer fighters and survivors, creating opportunities to get outside, push yourself, and—maybe most importantly—connect with people who understand what life with and after cancer is actually like.
I got to experience that firsthand last August when I went on my first Send It backpacking trip. This summer, I came back for the alumni rafting trip, and both experiences reminded me just how powerful it can be to get a group of people together who have been through some serious shit, leave cancer in the background for a while, and just go have an adventure.
That’s what I love about Send It. Cancer treatment takes care of the medical side, but there’s a whole lot more that comes with it. Send It gives young adults a chance to reconnect with the outdoors, challenge themselves, build friendships, and feel like themselves again.
So this SENDtember, I’m lacing up the hiking shoes and shooting for 75 miles around Lake Tahoe.
And there’s an added reason to donate this year: every dollar raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar, meaning your donation will have twice the impact and help Send It get even more young adult cancer fighters and survivors outside on an adventure.
