BEACON'S 7TH ANNUAL SOLIDARITY SLEEP OUT

On Friday, June 27th, dedicated adults, teens, and children will take part in our 7th Annual Solidarity Sleepout, spending the night outside to raise awareness and critical funds for women, men, and nonbinary people experiencing homelessness in Monroe County, Indiana.

With sleeping bags, tarps, and tents, participants will gather on the grounds of First United Methodist Church in Bloomington (www.fumcb.org) or take part in their own backyards or even on their living room floors. Leading up to sleeping out, participants will encourage their family and friends to sponsor them in support of Beacon's overnight shelter, Friend's Place.

Friend’s Place is a 40-bed overnight shelter for women, men, and nonbinary adults in Bloomington, Indiana. It is an essential resource in our community for many reasons:

  • It's Monroe County's largest year-round, emergency shelter for women with more than 3/4ths of its beds filled by women.

  • It provides more than 14,000 nights of shelter for over 200 people every year.

  • It's a Housing First shelter, whose main priority is giving people the tools they need to get back home as quickly as possible.

  • It's an LGBTQ+ affirming shelter - honoring all sexual orientations and gender identities while working with transgender and nonbinary individuals to provide the arrangements that best fit them.

  • As a shelter that recognizes people experiencing homelessness come from every belief system, Friend's Place has no tests or pressure to affirm any particular faith tradition.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Beacon's annual Solidarity Sleepout is the single most important fundraiser for Friend's Place. Without it, hundreds of women, men, and nonbinary adults would be without a safe place to sleep. Let's sleep out so they don't have to!
