Smashing Stigmas Surrounding Stillbirth

Let’s talk about stillbirth.

Some myths:

- Talking about child loss is taboo.

- Parents should be ashamed if they experience child loss.

- Stillbirths are rare.

- Stillbirths only affect a small part of the population around the world.

- Stillbirths are contagious.

Facts:

- In the United States, 26,000 babies are stillborn every year. 1 out of every 150 deliveries ends in stillbirth. 

- Thousands more are miscarried or die shortly after birth. More babies are stillborn every year in the United States than die from prematurity and SIDS combined.

- Around the world, it is estimated that nearly 3 million babies are stillborn each year. 

- The definition and record-keeping varies from country to country, making it hard to know for sure.

-We need to normalize talking about child loss to help families heal and not have to feel shameful and end the stigma.

- Stillbirth affects everyone, it does not prejudice against color or income.

With Star Legacy, let’s break the stigma around talking about child loss, spread awareness about these causes, provide support to those who need it, and prevent child loss.

Join us for a fun, laidback, family event on 6/11 from 5-8 at the Advent Health Shawnee parking lot at the corner of Antioch and 75th.

We’ll have food, entertainment, music, and a car that you can smash!

Children under 12= $10
