For many, a world without bleeding disorders is simply a dream. Thousands of kids and adults affected face internal bleeding, costly treatments and lifelong infusions.
I'm participating in HFSC's Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk & Health Fair - a fundraising event to support those, like Cole, living with bleeding disorders in my community. Bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, are a life-long condition, with no cure.
As most of you know, we have had some challenges since Cole’s diagnosis, including 2 line infections (one of which caused him to seize and code in the hospital), an inhibitor which made his treatment no longer effective, multiple joint and muscle bleeds, and a severe mouth bleed, which required him to receive red blood cell transfusions, as well as multiple Factor infusions.
In 2024, he experienced a bleed following a bicycle accident, which resulted in another hospital stay, 10 days of continuous infusions, and a month off from sports. More recently, this year, Cole experienced a throat bleed after playing basketball with friends, which required a trip to the emergency room and additional treatment. Thankfully, with the support of HFSC, the Center for Inherited Blood Disorders (his treatment center), and access to the medication he needs, Cole is doing well and back to the activities he loves.

Every dollar stays within our community and supports critical initiatives such as advocacy and access to care and providing the best educational and support programs available. Your donation also allows children with bleeding disorders to attend Camp Blood Brothers and Sisters, where they enjoy a fun, memorable experience with others their age, while learning more about their condition and the life-saving technique of self-infusion.
