CRPS/RSD Friendship Gathering & Stroll
We invite all individuals and their families, friends, supporters and caregivers living with CRPS/RSD to Southern California (SoCal) friendship gathering and stroll on June 7, 2025 at Veterans Park in Cypress, CA.
It is a an opportunity to gather and connect with other CRPS survivors and caregivers and supporters for an afternoon of friendship and community. We will have group activities and socializing after lunch.
1. The Stroll: There is a half-mile, flat, cement path around the park. Those who would like to take a stroll around the park are invited to do so. Chairs will be placed around the path in case one would like to sit and take a break. Canes, walking sticks, walkers, wheelchairs, and scooters are all welcomed!
Those who do not walk can be part of the cheer team at the finish line.
2. What to bring: Lawn chair or blanket to sit on, canopy for shade (optional, no larger than 10x10).
3. We will have lunch. Potluck items to share are welcome. We will have some tables set up on the grass. The tables will be a few feet away from the cement.
4. The park does have restrooms.
The Orange County CRPS Survivors and Caregivers Support Group is excited to host the RSDCA We're on Fire! Walk, Roll, Stroll - CRPS Awareness Walk!
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), is a rare, debilitating neuro-inflammatory condition. It often leaves its victims in excruciating pain, requiring care from multiple medical professionals, and dependent on family and friends to accomplish the tasks of daily living.
CRPS/RSD often develops after a fracture, sprain, surgery, or other, even minor, trauma to the body. It has the highest rated pain, 42 out of 50, on the McGill Pain Index, a scale that physicians use to measure and compare pain. It is rated more painful than amputation of a digit without anesthesia, childbirth, and even non-terminal cancer. In addition, the pain of CRPS/RSD is unrelenting and is experienced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Often, those with CRPS/RSD cannot even be touched by their loved ones because the pain is so excruciating. Since CRPS/RSD is a rare disease with less than 200,000 people in the United States diagnosed with it; there is little incentive for pharmaceutical companies or the medical community to address underlying causes or to develop effective treatments. For many individuals, this results in a progressive worsening of symptoms, disability and a life of unbearable pain.
